The winners of a competition of scientific and applied projects in the context of energy saving, organised by the Human Dynamics led project "Promoting sustainable development strategies in Turkmenistan were announced on 6 June in Ashgabat. The awards ceremony was held on the premises of the Ministry of Education.
The beneficiaries from the State Committee for environmental Protection in Turkmenistan and our team of experts have shortlisted 26 students' works from six universities and institutes in the country, during the two-month competition. A short-list of the 10 most innovative and applicable works qualified for the last round, two weeks before the awarding ceremony.
The jury, gathering national and international experts in the field of energy saving and environmental protection, as well as representatives of the Ministry of Education, had the difficult task of selecting the most prominent amongst the short-listed projects.
‘’We were pleasantly surprised by the applicants, the interesting works and the “rivalry” amongst the students, no matter if they were with a humanities or a technical background’’, said Mr. Peter Opitz, a senior expert from the Human Dynamics’ project.
All winners received certificates and laptops for their winning projects.
First place was awarded to Imamberdi Durdyeva from the Turkmen State Institute of Transport and Communications. Bairamgeldy Bakshi from the International Oil and Gas University won second place in the competition. Due to a tie vote in the selection committee, the third place was awarded to two contestants: Islam Orazov and Mivegozel Geldyeva - students of the International University of Oil and Gas and the Turkmen State University-Makhtumkuli.
Mr. Jean-Jacques Dote, Team Leader and a member of the jury, praised the innovative approach undertaken by most of the contestants during the competition.
“The students have developed their projects taking into account the usage of natural resources and the development of environmentally friendly technologies. Thanks to the "open door" policy of Turkmen universities, students show much interest in development and international cooperation in science and education. This allows them to adopt the best international practices in matters of ecological culture,” said Mr Dote.
