Human Dynamics “Inclusive Education for children with special needs” project released a new teaching methodology for inclusive education on 1 February 2016.
This methodology provides a framework for the teaching of children with special educational needs in accordance with the UN Disability Rights Convention, the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child and the national education policies in Uzbekistan.
The document includes two tool kits. The first is targeted at kindergarten and pre-primary school age children (aged 2 -7); and the second focuses on supporting primary teachers who are teaching children with special needs between the ages of 7 and 10. Both toolkits outline techniques and concepts that will help teachers work with individual students to support their learning process. Throughout the document there is a range of case studies, anecdotes and practical advice taken from a wide range of sources and crafted to provide a clear reference guide for teachers in Uzbekistan.
This document was developed by the Human Dynamics team in collaboration with local experts,
building upon a series of discussion and workshops, a review of the national legislation as well as drawing upon best European and international practices. Prior to publication the package was discussed and agreed with the key partners and beneficiaries. It was then piloted in selected schools and resource centres with teachers implementing the methodologies and supporting the refinement of the techniques to the local context.
The methodology is one of the major achievements of the “Inclusive Education for children with special needs” in Uzbekistan project. It will underpin the future evolution of inclusive education in Uzbekistan and provide lasting support and advice to practitioners.
