IPPC project holds a highly successful final conference

The final conference of the EU-funded HD-led project “Law Enforcement in the field of Industrial Pollution Control, prevention of Chemical Accidents and establishing the EMAS system” focused on draft Implementation Plan for the Industrial Emissions Directive

On 29 January 2016, Belgrade, the EU-funded HD-led project Law Enforcement in the field of Industrial Pollution Control, prevention of Chemical Accidents and establishing the EMAS system (IPPC project) held its Final Conference. This was highly successful.

A key focus of the conference was the preparation of the first draft of the Implementation Plan  for the Industrial Emissions Directive (DSIP for IED), presenting the outcomes, contents and follow-ups of this important document. The DSIP describes the investments to be undertaken by 21 of the most important Serbian operators in order to fulfill the technical and environmental protection standards set by IED and the plan for their implementation after Serbia’s ascension to the EU in order to ensure the financial sustainability of the measures and avoid future threats to their operability.

The conference further provided an opportunity to present the main results and impact of the activities carried out by the project and to discuss the current status of the implementation and future negotiating position. The conference addressed:

  • Main project results and impacts
  • Status of the implementation of IED, Seveso Directives and EMAS, Ecolabel Regulations
  • Outcomes and contents of the draft DSIP for IED, and
  • Obligations and opportunities for IED operators arising from the negotiation for ascension to the EU.

The conference was opened by Ms Aleksandar Vesic, the Assistant Minister of Agriculture and Environmental Protection of Serbia, and Ms Jelena Simovic, Assistant Minister for the Ministry of Energy and Mining of Serbia. Participants at the conference included employees in the national and local Competent Authorities, national and local institutions, and industrial operators.

Ms Ruza Radovic, IPPC ProjectDirector, was widely congratulated and praised for the project’s success.
