CESMED conference in Morocco

The Conference, Urban Development and Energy Transition, was held in Morocco on July 21.

The national conference "Urban Development and Energy Transition in Morocco", organised by the CES-MED project, the Ministry of Energy and Mines (MEMEE) and local authorities Branch (DGCL) was held on July 21 2016 in Rabat. Key dignitaries included Mrs. Nadya Aherdan, the national focal point, and Mr. Krause and Mr. La Tella  from the EU Delegation in Morocco. 

The conference highlighted the importance of preparing Morocco for energy transition and the role of local authorities to mitigate this challenge. The event was labelled a Pre COP22 event by Moroccan national authorities and received the title by the Scientific Committee for the COP22.

Amongst the participants in the conference were representatives from the three affiliated with CES-MED municipalities - Agadir, Oujda and Benslimane and stakeholders from the cities of Tangier and Kenitra.

Financial institution officers and managers from different organisations, including the European Investment Bank (EIB), the World Bank (WB), the Association for Energy Investment (SIE), the Municipal Investment (SIE), the Municipal Equipment Fund (FEC) and the Ministry of Housing and urban policy also attended the event. Following an extensive debate it was agreed CES-MED will set up a working group led by the MEMEE, whose objective will be to prepare recommendations for the establishment of a national mechanism to support the elaboration of SEAPs in the region  after COP22 in Morocco  in November 2016.
