Building Capacities for Climate Action at the City Level in the Arab Region

A training workshop under the auspices of the Global Covenant of Mayors for Climate and Energy, the UN-Habitat Program and the CLIMA-MED project

In close coordination with UN Habitat and the Clima-Med project, a training workshop will take place in Beirut, Lebanon from 18 to 20 February, 2019 to discuss the multidimensional approach for a coherent and coordinated response against climate change, and how the required establishment of appropriate coordination mechanisms at the regional, national and local levels can be addressed.

During the workshop, panelists and experts from several countries will share their experiences and explain the mechanisms for planning sustainable development within the local authorities as well as at the national and regional level. They will give a wide overview on the whole cycle of Sustainable Energy Access and Climate Action Plan preparation (SEACAPs) – from pre-assessment and development, to implementation and monitoring phase; financing of SEACAPs, awareness raising and opportunities for creating synergies for climate resilience and mitigation at local and national level. Case studies from Arab cities on climate change adaptation measures and building resilience will be also presented. 

Similarly, the capacity building event will discuss relevant topics and provide for practical understanding on Best practices and lessons learnt from local mitigation and adaptation actions in EU and MENA regions.
